# 1: Dec10/11 the X'mas train is coming to Vulcan. It arrives at 1:30 PM. There is a parade later in the day. the Art Gallery will be open until 5 or 6 PM depending on how many visitors we have. Apple cider & cookies will be served. any members wishing to visit with customers and new aptrons of the Gallery are encouraged to attend. and to have a fun time with the other members.

#2: Dec. 12/11, Monday. is regular Drop in Mondays. but WE WILL HAVE A X'MAS PARTY AFTER WE CLOSE AT 4:00 pm.

This is a couples party , so please bring your spouse if possible. This party will be a POT LUCK Supper. People who are travelling from out of town, We encourage you to bring something easy like buns,& butter, Pickles & olives etc. or a salad I will bring chicken wings. I think Dorothy is making a hot mashed potato casserole.

We need a couple of desserts ( at least one chocolate) haha, and a few salads and some main course food. If everyone brings chocolate cake, that will be a great meal, potatoes, chicken wngs and chocolate. All the food groups I think??. If onl.y salads come then we eat very healthy. and have chocolate cake. This is a private party so you can bring your own wine, beer or liquor. Linda has some wine glasses already packed. We have paper plates and cultlery and napkins.
There will be a fun gift exchange.

THE GIFT MUST BE RECYCLED ( A WHITE ELEPHANT) FROM YOUR OWN HOME. PLEASE WRAP UP YOUR GIFTS. BRING 2 GIFTS IF YOU BRING A SPOUSE. We will exchange the gifts then take gifts away from others. We think this will be fun and a good way to get to know the other artists and their spouses better. Please RSVP if possible so we know how many to set up tables for and also what food group you will be bringing. Thanks PH 403-485-4555 or e-mail to Eva or Dorothy.

#3: DEC.15/11 3:OO P.M. OUR RAFFLE DRAW WILL BE MADE. We need 3 members of the executive who have not bought tickets in their own names to be on hand. to do the draw. I will be contacting the newspaper to try and get some coverage about the Gallery. Cameras would be appreciated to record our first ever Raffle. and the response we have had. Our tickets are mostly sold out.

Anyone who has not turned in tickets that were sold for the raffle, we need them by Monday the 12th of Dec. as well as unsold tickets. These must be accounted for.

We will still be having our Monday workshop get togethers at the Gallery. Guests may come with a $5.00 admission charge.

Art & Gift Gallery events in the New Year are as follows:
A Workshop on Jan 7 & 8, 2011, will be Painting with deli papers. Samples of these techniques are available at the Gallery now. Pre - registration is necessary. This class is on Friday nite and Saturday. The cost will be $ 75.00 plus possibly $20. for supplies provided by the teacher.

Artist Trading Card Frenzie will be held on Feb. 14, 2011. This is an all day event starting at 10:AM until 8 PM. Come talk to us about how to get started with making your own Art Trading Cards. This is not an item to be sold but as a way to interact with other artists all over the country. They have been going strong in Calgary for over 3 years. You do not have to be an artist to be involved. Some people use regular playing cards and glue papers over them & use scrapbooking materials to embellish them.

Remember, we have a Workshop every Monday (weather permitting). Bring any project you are working on and sit and visit and do your work. We get lots of inspiration from the other artists that attend.

ENCAUSTIC PAINTING and other News!

Encaustic wax painting has been around for many centuries. This old technique uses bees wax and a special hardening agent and pigments to create the paint for these glorious paintings. These works of art can be scenic or landscapes or a combination of many techniques. Abstract pieces are very beautiful. The wax is very durable and long lasting. The mummies tombs in Egypt were decorated with encaustic wax. The paintings are easy to care for, and can be polished with a soft cloth or a clean warm hand will bring up the lustre of the wax.
The artist at the Nine in a Line Creative Art Society of Vulcan have many of their encaustic pieces of art for sale and on display at the Vulcan Art & Gift Gallery.

Sandra always has a basket of beautifully smelling soaps for Sale!
Also come and see the new Purses by Eva and Journals by Dorothy!
How about some Locker hooked mats by Charlie!
Elfie has 2 new Photobooks for Sale!
The Gallery is located behind the Fashion Studio on Main Street.

The Gallery's hours are !:00 PM to 4:00PM Monday to Saturday.
Mondays are workshop days. Come and see what the artists are working on.

We have started making Art Trading Cards. You will find some of our members busy creating these fun little cards to trade with other artists. This is such a good way to get your art out to the public, and we get to know the other artists that are out in the community.

Be sure to watch for our special evening planned for Moonlight Madness.
We will also be celebrating One Year of Opening The Vulcan Art & Gift Gallery.
